DON'T Get Hypnotized Today!

Mar 13, 2024

Hey Super-smart Minds!

I hope this message finds you well! I did a (subconsciously) “tricky” thing with the email subject line today. Mostly as an opportunity to share some quick and intriguing thoughts about how our deeper minds work, especially when it comes to hypnosis (or 'de-hypnosis').

You know, it's interesting how we often say things like "don’t forget" or "don't stress," but our heads tend to skip the "don't" part and focus on the rest. It’s a bit like telling a child, "don’t touch that," and then that's exactly what they want to do. So we forget instead of remember, stress instead of calm…

It turns out our brains are better at imagining the positive - what we actually want. When we try to envision what we don’t want, it’s a lot harder on the mind. So, when setting our goals or even talking to others (including ourselves), we painting the picture of what we desire instead of what we aim to avoid, makes the directions easier to follow (and the results come out more like what we wish).

Most of what I do in my practice really isn't helping people into hypnosis; it’s the opposite. I work on lifting folks out of those deep-seated beliefs and habits that they might not even realize they’ve been trapped in. By doing so, they can finally embrace the change they’ve been seeking. It’s about breaking free from the old narratives to create a fresh, open path forward. So most of the time I’m “de-hypnotizing” people rather than hypnotizing them!

Finally, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. I can’t MAKE anyone do things they don’t want to do. I’ve been working in the field for over 20 years, so I know a few tips and ‘tricks’ to get to the root of the issue quickly, but there’s got to be an openness to change for it to happen. Any transformation you make is ultimately your own doing – I'm here to cheer you on and provide some guidance along the way.

So, when I wrote "don’t get hypnotized today," there were three mind rules that I played with:

  1. The mind doesn’t hear don’t (so when giving suggestions, focus on what you DO want).
  2. Most unhelpful patterns have been ‘hypnotized’ a long time ago. We use ‘de-hypnosis’ to clear unwanted thoughts, feelings or behavior what aren’t working any more.
  3. You are the star player of your change. A hypnotist is only a coach – but you make the connections within your subconscious for lasting change.

Yet today is a good a day as any to make shifts you want, right? If this sparks any reflections or questions, or if you could use a guiding hand, don't hesitate to reach out. (just kidding - connect with me right away!)

I love what I do and I’m here to help!

Wishing you a day full of what you DO want!
Warmest,
Jennifer Norris-Nielsen
